Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

On first glance, this hierarchy appear to be particularly holistic. The inclusion of specific psychological needs after the basic needs stages seem quite logical. However, does it mean we as human need to ensure the guarantee of all basic needs (enough food, comfortable home, adequate rest) before we 'move on' to seek the sense of love and belonging?

Cant we obtain love and belonging, especially from the support system before we secure comfortable home or adequate rest?

So you cant feel accomplished and fulfilled without having strong support system? Lonely people cant reach their full potential?

Yes, in theory, all these needs make sense and interconnected. Personally, I think it is more of a circle. Ideally, each needs should be balanced.

Take Glasser's Reality Theory for instance. The five basic needs of human needs were discussed where all five need to be balanced to habe a quality life. Survival, Freedom, Fun, Power, Love & Belonging; if any of these are lacking, individuals are reccommended to gain it through suitable means to find that balance.

For example: A person feel sad about breaking up with a lover. This person lacked the sense of love & belonging, therefore, even though there was an absence in romantic love, other type of love could be pursue to secure the balance.

So yeah, personally, it is much more attainable for Maslow's hierarchy to be interpreted as a circle of needs thus abolishing the hierarchy.

Potato tomato I guess.
